The Wicked Edge Low Angle Adapter WELA is a vise extension designed to help you achieve lower sharpening angles on your knives. It is compatible with all models of Wicked Edge systems, except for the Pre-2017 Commercial Series Sharpener. This adapter is particularly useful for sharpening Japanese knives and small blades that require lower angles. By attaching the Low Angle Adapter to your Wicked Edge sharpener, you can achieve more acute angles and enhance the performance of your knives.

To operate and mount the adapter, the package includes 3/32" and 1/8" Allen Wrenches. These tools allow you to securely attach the Low Angle Adapter to your Wicked Edge system for precise sharpening. It is important to note that when using the Low Angle Adapter, the clamped height significantly changes, which may affect the accuracy of the angle markings on the sharpener.

To ensure precise results, we recommend using a Digital Angle Cube to measure and adjust the sharpening angle. For optimal performance with the Low Angle Adapter, longer guide rods can be helpful in adjusting the clamping height to accommodate the adapter and achieve desired sharpening angles. Follow these instructions to use the Wicked Edge Low Angle Adapter WELA:

  1. Clamp the Low Angle Adapter securely in your sharpener's Vise.
  2. To clamp your knife into the Low Angle Adapter, use a 1/8" Allen Key to loosen the screws in the Low Angle Adapter wide enough so the knife can fit between the jaws. Insert your knife and tighten the top screw first, then tighten the bottom screw. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.
  3. Follow the standard methods for determining your sharpening angle. You can use the Sharpie method or check the manufacturer's recommendations.
  4. Record your angle settings using a Digital Angle Cube.
  5. Sharpen your knife using all the standard procedures of the Wicked Edge sharpener.
