The Shapton Glass Stone Seven 1.20 Micron sharpening stone is comparable to a 8000 grit Whetstone and is fantastic for work on knives with established bevels and wanting to take it further by adding some polish the the bevel and taking it to a higher level of sharp. this is the third highest grit in the Stone Seven range.
The conventional image is that sharpening stones are large and heavy, but Glass Stones are not only thin and light, but also strong, as layers of tempered glass are stuck together.
Glass Stones therefore have strong resistance to cracking or sudden breakage caused by external shocks such as being dropped.
High dimensional stabilityThe extreme flatness of the stone holder's glass support allows you to sharpen your blades with great stability. The glass surfaces of the holder and the sharpening stone match perfectly, minimizing the risk of slippage, while anti-slip fittings on the holder's bottom corners enhance stability even further.
Maintain optimum conditionAny time you sharpen a blade, it impairs the flatness of the sharpening stone's surface, but Glass Stone Seven includes a dedicated lapping plate, making it possible to maintain this flatness - as is essential for high precision sharpening. Lapping the stone before you sharpen a blade ensures that you always obtain peak performance from your whetstones.
No more dirt issuesGlass Stone Seven is made from glass and rubber, making it easy to remove dirt and keep the kit clean after sharpening your blades. Your hands stay clean, too, as you can simply wash away any slurry while sharpening, and enjoy working in a clean environment, free from concern about dirt.
Sharpening is easy
The Glass Stone Seven sit comfortably in the palm of the hand, and is easy to set up and use. It's compact design makes it easy to store but also easy to carry with you, so that you can restore a blade's sharpness the moment you notice that it has deteriorated.
The "Seven" in the name of the Shapton Glass Stone Seven, refers to the 7mm thick layer of abrasive on each stone. This 7mm of abrasive is 2mm thicker than the 5mm layer found on the Shapton HR and HC Series Glass Stones.
Like Shapton's other Glass Stones, the stones in the G7 Kit are mounted to a 5mm thick glass base, making for stable, long lasting sharpening stones.
The Stones of the G7 are 160mm x 37mm
